- Fall 2009 Newsletter is now available.
- The newly formed Veterinary Pharmacology Research Foundation (VPRF) and the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Foundation (ACVMIF) are partnering to grant up to $18,000 for research projects that are devoted to veterinary pharmacology. Go to the VPRF page for more information.
- AAVPT will sponsor a Bioequivalence Workshop on June 27-30, 2010. This landmark event will include lectures from internationally recognized experts and will provide an opportunity for critical interactive discussions. Ultimately, based upon discussions, feedback, and expert insights, white papers will be developed and published. The preliminary program is now available.
- The U.S. Pharmacopeia transferred the Veterinary Clinical Drug Information Monographs to the AAVPT in September, 2009. These monographs are now available on the AAVPT website under "Resources." See the news article in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
- Outcomes of the Workshop on Exploration of Developmental Approaches to Companion Animal Antimicrobials: Providing for the Unmet Therapeutic Need of Dogs and Cats, held in October, 2008, are becoming available.
Purpose and objectives of AAVPT
The purpose of the Academy is promotion of the science of veterinary pharmacology and therapeutics.
The objectives of the Academy are:
- To support and promote the education and research in comparative pharmacology, clinical veterinary pharmacology and other aspects of pharmacology of interest to the veterinary profession.
- To sponsor a periodical Journal of the Academy which will publish reviews, summaries and original treatises on all aspects of veterinary pharmacology and therapeutics. The Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics shall be an official instrument of the Academy.
- To sponsor and conduct workshops, symposia or other scientific and educational meetings in veterinary pharmacology and therapeutics.
- To enhance the exchange of educational materials and ideas among veterinary pharmacologists.
- To organize committees of experts to research and make recommendations to the profession on current problems in veterinary therapeutics.
