May 16-18, 2005 - Washington DC
The AAVPT 14th Biennial Symposium Program Committee would like to thank you for accepting the invitation to speak at the AAVPT 14th Biennial Symposium. We look forward to working with you to produce a Symposium Proceedings that will both enhance communication at the Symposium and be a resource for the future.
The Proceedings will be published in full on the International Veterinary Information Service (IVIS; www.ivis.org) website and there are several important guidelines that need to be adhered to when preparing and submitting your manuscripts.
Manuscripts must be submitted to:
Dr. Carol Davis
Secretary-Treasurer AAVPT
aavptsecretary@insightbb.com
The manuscript submission deadline is the 15th of January 2005. Manuscripts not conforming to the AAVPT guidelines by the deadline will not be included in the Proceedings and this will result in the non-payment of the speaker compensation.
If you are concerned about the specific layout of your manuscript please also fax a copy to Dr. Davis with (217) 244 1652 with instructions.
File format: Manuscripts must be submitted as a single document that is compatible with Microsoft Word® (any version for Windows). File names must be in the format of:
AAVPT 14 BS Proceedings<space> first initial<space>surname<space>abbreviated title
i.e. AAVPT 14 BS Proceedings C Smith PK of diazepam
Page layout: Font must be 12 pt. Times or Times New Roman, single line spacing, margins 1'' on all sides, with left justification.
Length: Maximum of 5 letter-sized pages (8 ˝" x 11" paper). Manuscripts that exceed this limit will be returned for modification. The inclusion of the presentation slides in the Symposium Proceedings is optional and is does not affect the 5-page manuscript limit.
Title: The title of the manuscript must be in capitals and must match the title in the Symposium Proceedings, as well as the content of the presentation.
Author information: Please include name, degrees, board certifications, address, telephone number and email address.
Key words: Please include up to 5 keywords. Keywords are subject to approval, and revision, by the editors.
Content: Outlines are not acceptable and will be returned for rewrite. Diagrams, figures, pictures, tables and charts must be submitted electronically separately in tiff, jpg or gif formats and not embedded in the text of the manuscript. Where necessary, the author must obtain and acknowledge permission for the use of copyrighted material.
References: References must be listed at the end of the manuscript in the following format:
1. Short C et al. Biochem Pharmacol 1969; 18(4):945-7
2. Davis L and Wolff W. AJVR 1970; 31(3):469-73
Edits: Authors should note that the AAVPT 14th Biennial Symposium Program Committee will copy proof submissions and will communicate with the author to ensure that editing will not change content or meaning. If more extensive editing is deemed necessary, the manuscript will be returned for modification. Authors that would like to approve the format of the manuscripts before the final version is sent to the printer must include this request with the manuscript submission. Authors will be sent proofs and have a short period of time to confirm that the formatting is correct; however, please note that content revision will not be allowed.
Concerns regarding future publication of data presented in the Proceedings: The AAVPT suggests that for proceedings manuscripts based on unpublished data:
- Do not provide data in detail e.g., charts, graphs, etc.
- Do not structure the proceedings manuscript like a journal article.
- Avoid language describing statistical manipulation of data.
- Do not describe material and methods in detail.
- If the presentation is primarily related to unpublished data that maybe published elsewhere in the future, use the bulk of the manuscript to review known information and provide a short communication (i.e. 1/2 page) regarding the study.
Copyright agreement: The author grants unlimited and nonexclusive copyright ownership of the materials contained in the submitted proceedings manuscript to the AAVPT. Unlimited means that the author agrees that the AAVPT may use various modes of distribution, including online and CD-ROM electronic distribution formats. Nonexclusive means that the AAVPT grants to the author an unlimited right to subsequently reuse the submitted materials; except for on the Internet, where the IVIS will be the only website where the manuscript will be available.
Again, we want to thank you for accepting the responsibility of being a speaker at the AAVPT 14th Biennial Symposium.
