Five Great Reasons to Join the AAVPT!

The mission of the American Academy of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics (AAVPT) is promotion of the science of veterinary pharmacology and therapeutics. The AAVPT consists of a diverse membership of almost 300 from over 20 countries. The membership shares a common interest in research and teaching in veterinary pharmacology.

Founded in 1977, the objectives of the Academy are:

  • To support and promote education and research in comparative pharmacology, clinical veterinary pharmacology and other aspects of pharmacology of interest to the veterinary profession.
  • To sponsor a periodical Journal of the Academy which will publish reviews, summaries and original treatises on all aspects of veterinary pharmacology and therapeutics. The Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics shall be an official instrument of the Academy.
  • To sponsor and conduct workshops, symposia or other scientific and educational meetings in veterinary pharmacology and therapeutics.
  • To enhance the exchange of educational materials and ideas among veterinary pharmacologists.
  • To organize committees of experts to research and make recommendations to the profession on current problems in veterinary therapeutics.

Membership in the AAVPT - be it as a Student Member, Associate Fellow, or Fellow - is open to individuals with background and training in veterinary pharmacology.

Membership in AAVPT carries a number of benefits:
  1. First and foremost, the AAVPT offers its membership the opportunity to network, both formally and informally with many scientists working in the field of veterinary and comparative pharmacology. Amongst our membership are professionals from academia, the pharmaceutical industry, and federal regulatory centers. Many of our Fellows are nationally and internationally recognized leaders in species differences in drug disposition and veterinary therapeutics.
  2. Attendance and participation in our Biennial Symposia. AAVPT allocates a great deal of time and effort into the development of our symposia programming and works hard to identify important current scientific and educational issues and identifies and invites experts to talk at the meeting. Our meetings are very cost effective, and we strive to keep the cost as low as possible for our members. Our meeting this year will be in Fort Collins, Colorado on May 17 to 20. This year’s Biennial will feature an exciting Keynote Speaker (Dr. Temple Grandin!), sectional lectures, student posters (with opportunity for them to compete for student awards) , an awards banquet, Silent Auction, and awesome social activities! (go to http://www.aavpt.org/?page=AAVPT19thBiennial for more information)
  3. Members are eligible for a member discount to the Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics (JVPT), one of the highest impact journals in veterinary science.
  4. We offer access to several social media outlets for posting job opening and residencies positions. Our membership listserv is often the first place many of our members in industry and academia post announcements of new positions and residencies. It provides an excellent place for members to find other scientists in our field and to hear about job postings in industry, academia, and government.
  5. Lastly. Hey, let’s be honest! Saying you’re a Fellow of the American Academy of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics is a pretty cool line on your resume!

Joining is simple! Go to www.aavpt.org and join up online today…

See you in Fort Collins!
