The Award may be made in alternate years, but there shall be no obligation to present the award when, in the majority opinion of the Committee, no qualified candidate has been identified.

Candidate Notification: The recipient of the award shall be notified by the Chair of the Awards Committee no later than March 15. The Chair of the Awards Committee shall also inform (1) the Chair of the Program Committee for the Biennial Symposium to waive the registration fee for the awardee and (2) the Treasurer to prepare a check for the award amount payable to the awardee and dated the day of presentation at the Biennial Symposium.

Resident/Graduate Student Research Award

Judging the Award: An ad hoc committee appointed by the Chair of the ACVCP Scientific Program Committee and the Chair of the AAVPT Awards Committee will judge the award. The responsibility of chairing the ad hoc committee will alternate yearly between the ACVCP and AAVPT. The ad hoc committee will be comprised of at least 3 members; the Chair plus two members of the ACVCP and/or AAVPT. In the event that the Chair is not able to attend the meeting, the Chair will appoint a designee. Copies of qualified abstracts will be forwarded to the ad hoc committee members by the Chair prior to presentation. There will be no preference for oral or poster presentations and each will be considered equally for their merit. When the committee has viewed all presentations, they will be ranked first through last. The Chair will sum the rank for each candidate and the presentation with the lowest number (highest rank) will be considered the winner. In the event of a tie, the Chair will place the tie-breaking vote. The award will be presented annually, but there shall be no obligation to present the award when, in the majority opinion of the Committee, no qualified candidate has been identified.

Candidate Notification: The winner will be notified by the Chair prior to award presentation. If the winner is not able to attend the award presentation, the mentor may accept the award on his/her behalf or the winner will be announced and the award will be forwarded by mail.

Award Presentation: The award will be presented during the ACVCP Annual Meeting (held in conjunction with the ACVIM Forum) or AAVPT Biennial Symposium and will consist of a certificate signed by the officers of the ACVCP and AAVPT and a check in the amount of $1,000 (US).
